Clackamas County Bank robbed in Welches; tips sought

At 9:54 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, a robbery was reported at Clackamas County Bank, located at 67403 E. Hwy. 26, in the Welches area of Mt. Hood in Clackamas County.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies responded to the crime scene, obtained a physical description of the robbery suspect, and established containment in the search area.

No weapon was observed by bank employees; however, the suspect purported to have a gun and demanded money. No injuries are reported.

The suspect was last observed fleeing the area of the bank on foot while running south from the bank and crossing Hwy. 26, near Arrah Wanna Boulevard. The suspect is described physically as a:

• White male adult
• 25 years old
• 6' tall
• 160 lbs.
• Wearing a snowboarder-style black mask over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt, red-colored gloves, gray sweatpants and dirty white tennis shoes

No weapon was displayed during the robbery.

Deputies established a strong presence in the area -- searching for the suspect with the help of K-9s and a Sheriff's Office airplane. The coordinated search lasted for at least two hours in Welches.

The suspect was not apprehended.
