Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol personnel responded to a report of an 18-month-old male child who fell out a third-story apartment window -- landing approximately 24 feet onto a grass portion of the apartment-complex landscaping.

The indicent happened at 8800 SE Causey, L-303, Happy Valley.

The child involved is identified as 18-month-old Nicholas Enriques of Idaho.

At approximately 10:23 a.m. today, 25-year-old Dustin Gilbert, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex, was in the area when he heard a thump a short distance from him. Gilbert recognized that Enriques had just struck the ground. The third-floor window screen was observed wafting through the air.

Gilbert immediately notified 911, and attempted to make contact with the occupants of the third-story apartment. (Gilbert says he is willing to discuss details of this incident with interested media outlets.)

American Medical Response arrived on the scene and transported Nicholas Enriques -- who was reportedly conscious and breathing -- to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

Sheriff's Office investigators report that the 18-month-old child is originally from Idaho, and was staying in Portland for the summer with his 18-year-old brother and 25-year-old girlfriend. Investigators reveal the 25-year-old girlfriend was reportedly taking a shower when the unattended Nicholas Enriques climbed on a couch situated next to the screened third-story window and managed to fall through it.
