On April 7, 2008 at 2:46 a.m. a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy witnessed a black 2004 Chevy Trailblazer traveling southbound on SE 82nd Avenue at an excessive rate of speed.

A Portland Police Bureau patrol vehicle was following the Chevy in the distance, conveying information about this vehicle.

The Chevy failed to stop for patrol emergency lights -- resulting in a police pursuit.

The Trailblazer was reportedly traveling at speeds of 100 mph.

The chase went south on I-205; north on I-5; exited onto SW Carmen Drive; and ended when the Chevy crashed into a traffic signal at this intersection.

Tigard Police assisted in the apprehension of the suspect driver at the crash scene.

The suspect driver received medical attention at the crash scene, and was transported by Metro West Ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital with what are described as minor, non-life-threatening injuries, including broken ribs.

This suspect is identified as Brent Leland Barger (born 04-21-1976), a Gresham resident. Barger was discovered to have an extensive criminal history -- and was wanted on a Clackamas County felony warrant for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. (Prior arrest photo attached)

Following the April 7 car chase and crash, Barger now faces additional charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Attempt to Elude.

Barger is not currently in custody, and remains hospitalized at OHSU Hospital.
