Truffle expert to speak at Hamlet meeting

World-renowned truffle expert Dr. Charles Lefevre will speak at the Hamlet of Beavercreek community meeting, June 23 at 7 p.m.

Lefevre is an expert on cultivating French Black Truffles and a co-founder of the Oregon Truffle Festival. Information about the festival found here http://www.oregontrufflefestival.com

He will discuss the viability and opportunity to grow this lucrative cash crop in our native Clackamas County soils.

He believes that two species of fungus, both marketed as Oregon White Truffles hold promise for Oregon agriculture comparable to the benefits realized by farmers who initially planted wine grapes in this region.

He will explain where and how to find Truffles - specially trained dogs are used to find ripened truffles - and how Beavercreek, where one species grows wild abundantly, could become the hub of a global market for Oregon White Truffles. Lefevre contends that attempts to market improperly harvested and handled truffles have depressed the market value of the Oregon product.

There is no charge to attend the lecture which will be held at Beavercreek Grange Hall, 22041 South Kamrath Road, in Beavercreek, just south of the intersection of Beavercreek Road with Leland and Kamrath Roads.
