Detectives with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Team are seeking the public's help locating a fugitive identified as ADRIAN CIORNEI [pronounced chore-nay], born 01-01-49.
An arrest warrant for CIORNEI has been issued -- with bail set at $1 million due to his failure to appear in Clackamas County Circuit Court this morning (Tuesday, March 18, 2008).
Ciornei was set to appear before a Clackamas County Circuit Court judge today in a continuing court case involving allegations of child sex-abuse. Approximately five months ago, the victim -- now 19-years of age -- reported that over the previous four years, Ciornei (related to the victim through marriage) had sexually assaulted her extensively.
As a result of this investigation, criminal charges of Rape I, Sex Abuse I and Unlawful Sexual Penetration were filed in Clackamas County and Washington County, where the reported crimes are suspected to have occurred.
Ciornei was first arrested by law enforcement in October 2007 on these described criminal charges. Ciornei posted bail amounts in both Washington County and Clackamas County totaling $150,000.
Ciornei, who immigrated legally to the United States from Romania, was earning a substantial living in the U.S. as an adult foster-care provider.
Pending trial, Ciornei had been residing at a residence located at 3441 SE 111th Ave #2 in Portland, Oregon. Sheriff's Office Detectives have inquired at this address -- only to learn that Ciornei had departed from this location on Monday, March 17, 2008 at about 10:30 p.m.
Ciornei has not been seen or heard from since that point in time. This suspect did not have ready access to a motor vehicle.
Ciornei has reportedly made statements indicating he was going to flee the United States and return to his native Romania. Ciornei previously surrendered his passport to authorities; however, newly acquired investigative intelligence indicates that he is going to attempt to fraudulently obtain an additional passport -- under a false name -- to facilitate his departure from the U.S.
Adrian Ciornei (born in January, 1949) is a fugitive from justice, and a Clackamas County warrant for his arrest exists for Failure to Appear (sexual assault). Ciornei is described as:
