Clackamas County Sheriff's Patrol Deputy Steve Strickland provides these early-morning photographs (linked above) from the Clackamas River. They were captured along the Clackamas at McIver Park in Estacada and downriver at the Carver boat ramp.
Deputy Strickland recognized the increased elevation of this chilly river, and inquired about the current water conditions of the Clackamas River. He discovered the river has raised an additional 2.5 feet overnight -- and that the Clackamas River is reportedly flowing at an impressive 13,600 cubic feet per second, with a water temperature of 44 degrees.
It's important to recognize the increased water levels that exist on the high-velocity Clackamas River. Large logs and debris from the riverbank are being jettisoned -- with great momentum -- through the waterway, adding an additional hazard to anyone navigating the river.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about the hazardous conditions that exist on all Clackamas County waterways -- especially now, during an extensive snow runoff.
