Body found in Sandy River identified as missing 16-year-old

Posted: July 13, 2008, 8:34 p.m.

At 8:54 a.m. today (Sunday, July 13), the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the discovery of a male body submerged in the Sandy River.

The body was reportedly discovered along the Sandy River in the proximity of 42705 SE Oral Hill Road, east of Sandy. The body has discovered in a remote location that will require 4x4 all-terrain vehicles to access.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol personnel and a Clackamas County Medical Examiner responded to the location to conduct a death investigation. Sandy Fire rescue personnel also responded to assist with the recovery mission.

The Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office later found that the body was in fact the remains of Patrick James Cody Monteith -- the missing 16-year-old Sandy High student presumed drowned in the Sandy River following a late-June swimming mishap on the Sandy.

On the afternoon of Saturday, June 28, rescue personnel from the Clackamas County Swift Water Rescue Consortium, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Hoodland Fire and Sandy Fire responded to reports that Monteith had been swept down the Sandy River east of Marmot. No recovery was made after extensive water, ground, and aerial searching conducted over a two-day period.

Monteith was a resident of E. Sylvan Drive, in Sandy.

All family notifications have been completed, and this drowning investigation is considered closed by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
