The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office investigated a fatal, single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday (March 28, 2009) at approximately 03:47 a.m. at 25113 S. Ridge Road in Beavercreek.
Deputies report that a male driver, accompanied by a female passenger, was traveling on S. Ridge Road in a white 1999 BMW sedan when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree -- severely impacting the passenger side of the vehicle. As a result of this impact, the female passenger died at the scene.
The Clackamas County Deputy Medical Examiner traveled to the scene to attend to the deceased female and aid in the crash investigation. Members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction and Forensic Team (CRAFT) -- which specializes in these types of investigations -- were also summoned to the scene to investigate. Members of Beavercreek Fire also responded and assisted.
The male passenger -- who initially was described by witnesses as having exited the crashed vehicle after impact and walking under his own power -- was airlifted from the scene with non-life threatening injuries and treated at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.
South Ridge Road was closed for several hours between South Butte Road and Upper Highland Road.
Sheriff's Office investigators report that they suspect speed and alcohol are both factors contributing to this fatal crash.
The deceased is identified as: Bethanie Marie Adamson, age 22, who resided on South Henrici Road in Oregon City.
After the male driver was airlifted to OHSU, deputies immediately responded to the hospital and took him into custody after he was released from medical care.
This driver is identified as Nicholas Ray Lunde, age 23; he has a residential address on South Butte Road in Beavercreek. Lunde is now lodged in Clackamas County Jail and is charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree. His bail is set at $250,000.
Lunde is expected to appear for his arraignment on this matter in the Clackamas County Circuit Court on Monday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
