At 10:12 p.m. on July 4, 2011, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to investigate an accidental shooting at 15555 South Herman Rd. in Molalla.

Carl Cline, age 56, had been shot in the forearm while in a field at the location.

Mr. Cline, of Molalla, was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to the forearm and then transported in stable condition to OHSU for further treatment.

The initial investigation revealed that Virgil Foster, 60, had fired one round from his rifle at what he believed was a cougar in the field behind his house. Mr. Cline was struck in the forearm by a single rifle round. After Mr. Cline yelled out, Mr. Foster put down the rifle and rendered medical aid.

It was determined Mr. Foster and his wife Christine Foster, 58, both lived on the same property with Mr. Cline. Christine Foster is Carl Clines' sister.

No one else was injured in this incident.

This incident is still under investigation by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
