Broadway cab stolen at gunpoint; tips sought

On Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at 1:50 a.m., a Broadway Taxi was stolen from its driver at gunpoint at South Beavercreek Road and South Unger Road in rural Clackamas County.
The driver had reportedly picked up a fare -- the suspect male -- at the Shari's Restaurant at the Oregon City Shopping Center.
The suspect explained that his car had broken down and that he needed to get to his aunt's house in Beavercreek. He did not know the exact address but he would show the driver how to get there.
When the taxi arrived at South Beavercreek Road and South Unger Road, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the driver. He told the driver to get out. Once the driver had gotten out, the man drove off with the taxi.
The taxi driver went to a nearby house and called 911.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies -- along with Molalla Police Department officers -- converged swiftly on the scene in search of the vehicle. Broadway Cab was able to provide a location for the vehicle using the onboard GPS. Deputies found the vehicle at HWY 211 and South Beavercreek Rd.
Deputies searched the area with the assistance of an Oregon City Police K-9 team,, but were unable to find the suspect.
This robbery suspect is described as follows:
- White male adult
- Approx. 45 years old
- 5'06" tall
- Medium build
- Brown/gray hair
- Wearing a dark-colored long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored hat.
Deputies are continuing to follow-up on this case, and are expecting surveillance video of the suspect in the next few days.
