Clackamas County to dead-end 162nd Ave just south of Rock Creek Blvd

Effective Tuesday, August 31, in conjunction with the City of Happy Valley, Clackamas County will permanently dead-end 162nd Avenue just south of Rock Creek Boulevard to all automobile traffic.

The removal of access to Rock Creek Boulevard will still allow property owners on 162nd Avenue south of Rock Creek Boulevard to access Highway 212 directly, but not to access Rock Creek Boulevard.  Traffic on 162nd Avenue north of Rock Creek Boulevard will be able to access Highway 212 by taking Rock Creek Boulevard to 172nd Avenue.

While 172nd Avenue was under construction, 162nd Avenue was an important detour route, but with 172nd scheduled to open to the public by the end of August, the 162nd detour will no longer be needed.

Clackamas County Traffic Engineer Rick Nys says there are also safety reasons for closing the south segment of 162nd Avenue.

“Eastbound traffic on Highway 212 is held up by people trying to make a left turn on to 162nd,” he said, “and it is also difficult for southbound drivers on 162nd to turn left onto Highway 212.  Safer turns can be made at the Highway 212/172nd Avenue intersection.”

Area residents are receiving notification by mail and service providers, such as emergency services and the school district, are being contacted by County staff.
