At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance involving gunshots at 16417 SE McLoughlin Blvd. in a mobile-home court the unincorporated Oak Grove area of Milwaukie.

Investigating deputies soon learned that a disturbance occurred between two males that resulted in one male receiving at least one gunshot wound in the leg. However, multiple gunshots were reportedly heard by local residents near the scene.

Witnesses reportedly observed the male shooting suspect fleeing the area at a high rate of speed.

The 47-year-old male gunshot victim was immediately transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response. He was described by rescue personnel as conscious, breathing and alert.

Sheriff's Office investigators went to the hospital expecting to interview the victim as soon as he was medically able.

Additional deputies canvassed the neighborhood where the crime was committed, hoping to cultivate additional leads.

Deputies did not consider this suspect an immediate threat to the mobile-home-court residents.

(NOTE TO MEDIA: An unrelated vehicle pursuit was conducted by additional Oregon State Police law-enforcement personnel in the Oregon City area -- these are two separate, unrelated incidents and criminal investigations.)

Deputies identify the shooting victim as Daniel Charles Johnson, 47; he resides at the crime scene (16417 SE McLoughlin Boulevard, #26, Oak Grove / Milwaukie). He remains in stable condition at a local hospital, where he is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sheriff's Office detectives report that the suspect and victim are known to each other. Daniel Johnson was reportedly inside his mobile when the suspect in this case -- Michael A. Mazzi, 21, who possesses an active Multnomah County arrest warrant for burglary, issued in December 2010 -- arrived at his residence and began knocking on the door.

Johnson reportedly exited the trailer and began talking with the suspect. This conversation reportedly escalated quickly into a heated argument -- resulting in a brief physical fight between the two men.

Daniel Johnson then reportedly began to walk away and return to his residence -- at which point the suspect drew a handgun and proceeded to shoot repeatedly at Johnson, striking him several times.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a dark-green 1998 Chevy Blazer, with Oregon plates VZQ-675 -- a vehicle registered to and believed to have been driven by Kady Lee Vaden, 19, a female person of interest in this case.

No other residents of this mobile-home park were injured.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, Sheriff's Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit investigators reported that Kady Lee Vaden had been located. Earlier Saturday, around the noon hour, the female person of interest in this case, Vaden, telephoned Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Deputies announcing that she immediately available for an interview with investigators. Vaden was soon interviewed by a detective, and was not taken into custody.

At 6 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 8, Michael A. Mazzi, 21, surrendered peacefully and voluntarily to Clackamas County Jail Corrections Deputies in Oregon City.

Mazzi was then interviewed extensively by Sheriff's Office detectives. According to a Sheriff's Office detective, "The mother, family, and girlfriend of Michael Mazzi were very influential while guiding him to do the right thing in this case -- resulting in Mazzi surrendering to authorities this evening to address this matter."

Investigators are not releasing explicit details surrounding this shooting event. Although, investigators do acknowledge an ongoing dispute is known to exist between the two men involved. This criminal investigation continues.

Michael A. Mazzi, 21, of Damascus is lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:

Assault in the First Degree
Felon in Possession of a Firearm (2 counts)
Additional Multnomah County arrest warrant pertaining to a prior burglary investigation.

Michael A. Mazzi is expected to be arraigned on this matter on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at 3 p.m. in Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon City.
