The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce a boat-naming ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5 at noon at Willamette Park, off Volpp Street at the 10th Street boat ramp in West Linn.
During the ceremony, three in-service Sheriff's Office Marine Unit boats will be re-christened and re-named in honor of three notable Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputies who served the Sheriff's Office with distinction and honor.
The re-christened boats:
- The "Damon Coates" -- a 21' North River Trapper aluminum jet boat. In recognition of Sgt Damon Coates, who was shot in the line of duty in January 2003, survived, and is recuperating with his family in West Linn.
- The "Bill Bowman" -- a 22' Jet Craft aluminum jet boat. In recognition of Deputy Bill Bowman, who was shot and killed during a training exercise in September 2000.
- The "Jimmy Shoop" -- a 19' Almar RAIVE aluminum jet boat. In recognition of Deputy Jimmy Shoop, who was killed while responding to a call for service in his patrol car in November 1981.
The Sheriff's Office is also pleased to announce that Sgt. Damon Coates will be attending this ceremony with his family -- along with family and friends of Bill Bowman and Jimmy Shoop.
Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts and his Marine Deputies will be on hand to greet members of the media and the general public, who are encouraged to attend.
Attendees will find a grass-covered parking area at the ceremony location of the ceremony, with a gazebo, just west of the boat-ramp parking area.
