Regional Sheriff’s Offices Arrest 85 DUII Drivers during Holiday Season
Posted: Wednesday, January 6, 2010
Regional Sheriff’s Offices from Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill counties arrested 85 subjects for driving under the influence of intoxicants during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season.
The Sheriff's Offices were able to add limited extra patrols during holiday season with grant monies provided by ODOT and dispersed by the Oregon State Sheriff's Association (OSSA).
The Sheriff's Offices reported no alcohol-related fatal crashes during the holiday season.
Statistics released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that traffic-crash deaths in Oregon in which at least one driver had a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater dropped from 148 in 2007 to 136 in 2008.
The Sheriffs feel strongly that combining resources with the surrounding Oregon counties enhances public safety -- assuring that the mission of each office is well-served.
Please visit the OSSA Web site (www.oregonsheriffs.org) or the sites of any of the coalition member agencies for more information on the office of the Sheriff.
The elected office of the Sheriff is unique. By statute, it is responsible for several critical areas of public safety -- including running a jail, search and rescue, waterway protection, and civil services. Each sheriff’s office also has resources necessary to meet other law-enforcement needs that benefit the citizens of each county.
