Do you want to serve your community in a meaningful, worthwhile way? Do you enjoy meeting new people and leaning about how your government works? Do you want to “make a difference”? The Clackamas County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council has six opening for just such people.
This Council meets once a month for three hours, Each member also serves on a committee that includes a once-a-month meeting of 1 – 1-1/2 hours. Committees include Long Term Care and Focal Point/Nutrition and Advocacy.
The Long Term Care Committee looks into issues concerning LTC facilities including foster care homes, residential care homes and nursing homes.
The Focal Point/Nutrition Committee meets at a different senior center in Clackamas County each month. They meet with the center director to find out about any needs the center may have, eat lunch with the congregate meal group, and talk to them about the senior center, the food provided and whether or not it meets their needs.
The Advocacy Committee advocates for issues that are important to seniors. Members educate legislators and policy makers in writing, in person and over the phone. We cannot expect our legislators to understand the needs of seniors without our input.
