Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol deputies are alerting the public to be aware of a navigation hazard on the Clackamas River.
This partially submerged water hazard is situated approximately three-quarters of a mile upstream of the popular Barton Park boat ramp on the Clackamas River.
The hazard is an old piece of machinery exposed in a rapid area on the north side of the Clackamas River. The area is known as the "Pump Hole Rapid," near the old gravel pit -- just downstream from where the power lines cross the river.
This hazard recently caused injuries to two individuals attempting to raft through this portion of the river.
The Marine Unit has posted signage approximately 60 yards prior to the hazard area warning those navigating the river to stay left on the river. This hazard has also been covered in yellow tape to make it more prominent and visible to the public.
Marine Patrol deputies are urging people to keep away from this hazard and to always wear personal flotation devices.
