The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has taken into custody a shooting suspect believed responsible for the attempted murder that occurred Tuesday afternoon on SW 65th in Tualatin.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office personnel alerted law-enforcement agencies and news outlets about this shooting incident. Tualatin Police officers recognized the suspect vehicle -- a 1996 Dodge Pickup Truck -- parked in front of a residence at 9945 SW Lumbee in Tualatin.

At approximately 10 p.m. Jan. 22, Tualatin Police and Washington County Tactical Team members conducted surveillance at this location, waiting for suspect Kenneth James Leeper to exit this residence .

At midnight, Leeper exited the described residence, entered his truck and was immediately surrounded by Washington County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team personnel. Leeper reportedly attempted to drive away to avoid capture; however, spike strips were deployed, helping thwart his escape.

Leeper was taken into custody unharmed, then transported to Clackamas County Jail and lodged on two counts of Attempted Aggravated Murder.

Leeper is expected to be arraigned today (Wednesday, Jan. 23) at 3 p.m. in the Clackamas County Courthouse.

The shooting victim who was airlifted to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital late yesterday afternoon in serious condition is identified as Jacob W. Johnson (born 10-03-1977). Mr. Johnson is reportedly recovering from his gunshot wound, which is no longer considered life–threatening.

The second victim, who resides with Jacob W. Johnson at the SW 65th address, was not injured during the shooting incident, and is identified as John Eron Schmit (born 05-21-1973). Schmit works for Extreme Electric as an apprentice electrician.
