At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 26 and Ruben Lane in Sandy.

David Morgan Richey, 51, formally of Eagle Creek, Oregon, was walking northbound in the marked crosswalk on the east side of the intersection when a westbound Toyota Corolla sedan struck him.

The male pedestrian was reportedly crossing against the light, and the driver of the Toyota was reportedly entering the intersection on a green light.

Sandy Fire personnel responded to the scene, and were unable to revive Richey. Preliminary reports by Sandy Police investigators indicate that the driver of the Toyota was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The crash investigation by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office C.R.A.F.T. team is ongoing.

Appropriate family notifications are complete.

The above-linked booking photo of the deceased, David Richey, was obtained following a Driving Under The Influence arrest performed the day before his demise. On Monday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m., Richey was arrested at the very same intersection -- Hwy. 26 and Ruben Lane -- where he was struck and killed the next day while walking against the traffic control signal.

No citations have been issued.
