On June 11, 2008 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a group of teenagers -- four males and a female -- departed undetected from their respective residences, armed with spray-paint canisters. This group then traveled to Rex Putnam High School and spray-painted the exterior of the school with graffiti.
Most alarming was a bomb threat spray-painted by one of the 14-year-old males on the exterior wall of the high school. (Photos are linked above.)
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer (SRO), Deputy Funk, reports that all five spray-painters have now been identified: Four of the students are males enrolled in the 7th grade at Alder Creek Middle School. The remaining student, a female, is identified as a junior attending Rex Putnam High School.
The 14-year-old primary suspect believed responsible for spray-painting the bomb threat was taken into police custody and transported to the Clackamas County Juvenile Intake & Assessment Center. This juvenile is charged with Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.
The remaining four juveniles will have their respective cases referred to the Clackamas County Juvenile Department for prosecution.
A number of conscientious Rex Putnam High students came forward with information that helped identify those believed responsible for the alarming vandalism.
Campus Security Officer Larry Scerri -- who maintains a first-rate rapport with Putnam students -- was able to secure from conscientious members of the student body the names of all those believed responsible for these crimes.
Thanks to these commendable students, the investigation was quickly concluded.
The school has not release a monetary damage estimate at this time.
