Regional Sheriff's Offices Looking for DUII Drivers this Memorial Day Weekend
Posted: May 25, 2011
Regional Sheriff's Offices from Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill counties will be conducting increased DUII patrols this Memorial Day Weekend.
Deputies will be out in force this weekend -- working in a joint effort to identify and arrest intoxicated drivers throughout the region.
Sheriffs of the four counties have collectively agreed to target intoxicated drivers on their respective roadways. Media are invited to ride along in the county of their choosing.
The Sheriffs have continued this partnership for the past couple of years -- combining resources to enhance public safety and assure that communities are well-served.
With the weather turning warmer, many families will be hosting barbeques over the long holiday weekend. It is important to remember that much of the tragedy that comes from drunk driving could be prevented if everyone would take a few simple precautions:
- If you plan to drink alcohol with friends or family, designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
- If you are hosting a party where alcohol is being served, collect keys at the beginning of the party and only give them back to sober drivers.
- If you're impaired, call a taxi, or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
- Report drunk drivers immediately to law enforcement by calling 911.
- Wear your seat belt while in a car or use a helmet and protective gear when riding a motorcycle as these are your best defenses if you are involved in a crash.
Remember, if you know someone who is about to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
Please visit the webpage of the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association or any of the members of the coalition for more information on the office of the Sheriff.
The elected office of the Sheriff is unique. By statute, it is responsible for several critical areas of public safety -- including running a jail, search and rescue, waterway protection, and civil services.
