On Friday, Jan. 15, 2009 at 8:14 a.m., a Subaru wagon operated by Sadie F. Wood, 26, of Gresham, was traveling east on SE Borges Road. While departing the intersection eastbound on SE Borges Road at SE 222nd, Wood reportedly drove directly in front of an oncoming white Ford van operated by Bradley A. Wadsworth, 49, of Gresham.

Wadsworth is believed to have been proceeding lawfully southbound on SE 222nd at the time of the resulting crash.

Members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Boring Fire and Clackamas Fire District #1 responded to the crash scene.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel discovered the Subaru and driver Sadie Wood upside down in a ditch running along the roadway on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Rescue personnel extracted Sadie Wood from this vehicle. She was reportedly conscious and breathing, but had received a major head injury during the crash. Her vehicle received a significant amount of damage on the driver's door at the time of the incident.

Sadie Wood was airlifted from the scene by LifeFlight to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

The Ford van operated by Wadsworth received extensive front-end damage. An investigating deputy determined that the Ford van is believed to have traveled 156 feet in a southeasterly direction from the initial point of impact in the intersection. Air bags deployed in Wadsworth's vehicle, and he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Wadsworth was not seriously injured, and was not medically transported from the scene.

Investigators report that Sadie Wood is believed to have stopped at the intersection of SE Borges and 222nd -- but then failed to recognize the southbound van approaching on SE 222nd at an estimated 45 mph as she entered the intersection.

This crash remains under investigation by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
