Clackamas County celebrates National Health Center Week; demonstrates community need

Each year, the second week of August marks the celebration of National Health Center week, which is dedicated to recognizing the service and contributions of community health centers. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the creation of the Health Centers Program by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which was established to provide access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S.

The
Clackamas County Primary Care Center located in Oregon City treats a variety of health issues and provides services including health care for pregnant women and children; health care for adults; family planning; physical exams; vaccinations; services and referrals for those facing addictions and mental illness; and dental care. The center also provides education and food assistance for expectant parents and children under age 5 through the Women, Infants and Children program.

“Our county’s healthcare clinic provides good primary care for people living in Clackamas County,” said Dr. Michael Sluss, President of the center’s Community Health Council, “including those who have difficulty paying for medical care.”

“I’ve had nothing but good experiences at the Clackamas County Primary Care Center,” said Sheila Allen, a patient at the center for 9 years. “They have helped me so much by educating me about diabetes and arthritis, as well as how to treat and manage my conditions.  They also helped me get the medications I needed, which I previously could not afford. The health care practitioners there take the time to listen to you, and they will refer you to a specialist when needed to ensure you get the proper care.”

Clackamas County’s
Primary Care Center is accepting new patients and is located at 1425 Beavercreek Road in Oregon City. The center can be reached at (503) 655-8471. The WIC program is offered in a variety of locations throughout the county including Oregon City, Gladstone, Canby and Sandy. To learn more about WIC, please click here.
