Posted: Feb. 10, 2008
UPDATE (Feb. 10, 11:03 a.m.): The male adult who was shot and killed after threatening Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputies with a handgun late Saturday evening in Clackamas can now be identified as:
Aaron Damien Ganon (born February 1977), age 31. He resided at 11500 SE Sunnyside Road, Unit N-13, in Clackamas.
_____
On Saturday, Feb. 9 at approximately 11 p.m., Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance involving a man with a gun at the Twin Creek Apartments (11500 SE Sunnyside Road, in Clackamas).
Patrol units arrived at this location -- and witnessed a described suspect vehicle departing the area.
This suspect vehicle proceeded eastbound from the apartment complex, moving erratically and failing to yield to emergency overhead lights activated by the pursuing Sheriff's Office Patrol units.
The suspect vehicle made an abrupt evasive maneuver and came to an erratic stop, spinning around in the parking lot of Sunrise Middle School (14331 SE 132nd, Clackamas).
Minutes later, this vehicle came to a complete stop -- with multiple Patrol deputies, including a K-9 unit, on scene commanding the suspect to comply.
At 11:08 p.m. The driver -- a 31-year-old, lone male adult suspect -- failed to comply with deputy commands and brandished a handgun in a life-threatening fashion. He was subsequently shot and killed by one of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputies. Reportedly, only one Deputy Sheriff discharged his weapon in response to the armed threat.
American Medical Response was immediately summoned. However, the armed subject died at the scene.
No Clackamas County Sheriff's Office personnel were injured during this ordeal.
Members of the Clackamas County Inter-Agency Crime Team, the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office, the Clackamas County Deputy Medical Examiner's Office and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene.
In accordance with Clackamas County Sheriff's Office policy and procedures, the deputy directly involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave during the course of the Clackamas County Inter-Agency Crime Team's investigation.
The name of the involved deputy will be released in the next few days.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased male had made at least three (3) prior suicide attempts in the past. In addition, the deceased had been transported as recently as Jan. 22 by a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy to a local Portland hospital for a similar mental-health-related issue.
The name of the deceased will be made public as soon as all appropriate notifications have been completed. It is also anticipated that an autopsy will be performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.
No additional information can be made available at this point in time. Media outlets are asked to conduct any necessary follow-up with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer after 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
