Ultralight aircraft crashes during takeoff at Mulino Airport, injuring pilot

MULINO -- On Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at 12:36 p.m., an ultralight aircraft crashed during takeoff from Mulino Airport in rural Clackamas County.

This ultralight is described as a fixed-wing, single-engine 2005 Ridge Runner 2, registered to Anthony Epperson, age 30, who has a residential address in Tacoma, Washington.

Epperson was the sole person onboard during takeoff when his aircraft crashed at the north end of the Mulino runway.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies and Molalla Fire personnel responded to the crash scene. They spoke with the injured Epperson before he was airlifted to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital (OHSU). Epperson was described by rescue personnel as conscious and breathing; he reportedly received several facial lacerations and a broken ankle as a result of the crash.

The Epperson family has been notified. Anthony Epperson is presently being treated at OHSU, and reportedly does not have life-threatening injuries.
