The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities, and the Department of Transportation and Development are accepting entries through March 16, 2010 for the "Teen Triple Threat" safe-driving PSA contest.
Motor-vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens ages 15-19 -- no other hazard or behavior comes close to claiming as many teen lives as driving.
Traditionally, drivers' education has come from parents, educators, and safety professionals. Now, Clackamas County high-school students will be "in the drivers' seat" as they are invited to create safe driving scripts based on risk factors such as:
- SPEED
- DISTRACTED DRIVING and
- IMPAIRED DRIVING (DUII)
... or on prevention strategies such as:
- Wearing Seatbelts
- Sharing the Road
- Proper Following Distance
Students entering the "Teen Triple Threat" contest will select a topic, then write a script for a sixty second PSA (public service announcement). The winning script will be professionally produced. Students are encouraged to use their own stories and references to share their message.
This campaign is brought to you by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities, and the Department of Transportation and Development. These organizations are committed to reducing injury or death on our roadways.
The contest will accept entries from Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 to Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Entries will be judged on creativity, message impact, and promotional appeal. Contest rules can be found at www.ClackamasSafeCommunities.org, by downloading this PDF or clicking here. The site also provides sample scripts, entry forms, past contest winners, helpful links, and other articles to get teens thinking about safe driving.
Good luck and be safe.
