Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Sergeant involved in traffic crash

At about 6:46 p.m. today (Oct. 2, 2008), Sgt. John Naccarato of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was involved in a traffic crash on Hwy 551, near Langdon Farms, south of Wilsonville, Oregon.Sgt. Naccarato was working a motor carrier enforcement detail and had an ODOT employee in his car. A southbound vehicle on Highway 551 came into his traffic lane and nearly hit him head-on.
Sgt. Naccarato took evasive maneuvers to avoid the crash, activated his emergency lights and was turning around in the roadway when he was struck in the driver's door by a VW Beetle.
The female driver of the Volkswagen was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown. Sgt. Naccarato does not have any apparent injuries.
The driver using the wrong lane -- starting this chain of events -- did not stop.
The Oregon State Police are investigating this collision, and should be contacted for any further details on the driver of the VW Beetle.
