Public comment invited on proposed tree preservation ordinance
The Clackamas County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed tree preservation ordinance Monday, March 22. The hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the County's Development Services Building Auditorium at 150 Beavercreek Rd., Oregon City.
The proposed ordinance only applies to land in urban, unincorporated Clackamas County - areas of Clackamas County that are not in cities but within the Portland Metropolitan Urban Growth Boundary. The draft ordinance is available for review at http://www.clackamas.us/transportation/planning/treetaskforce.htm.People wishing to offer testimony at the hearing are asked to sign up at the meeting. The Planning Commission is also accepting written testimony. The Planning Commission will either deliberate and develop a recommendation to forward to the Board of County Commissioners, or continue the hearing.
The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners appointed a citizen Trees Task Force in September 2008 to address issues related to maintaining and enhancing the tree canopy in the urban, unincorporated area of the County. The task force developed a draft ordinance last August.
The draft task force ordinance was shared with the Board of Commissioners at study sessions last fall and reviewed and discussed by the Planning Commission on Jan. 25. The draft ordinance currently under consideration is the ordinance from the task force, with a few revisions in response to direction from the Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission.
After the Planning Commission completes its work, the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 8, in the Public Services Building, 2051 Kaen Rd., Oregon City.
