Clackamas County Sheriff's Office investigates two injury accidents involving children

Posted: Sept. 23, 2008 6:36 p.m.

At 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies responded to an auto/pedestrian accident involving a 10- to 12-year-old child riding a bicycle. The collision reportedly occurred at 5022 SE Boardman in Milwaukie.

Around the same time, the Sheriff's Office also received a report of an accident in the same vicinity -- in which medical assistance was needed for a 4-year-old child believed to have fallen from a second-story window.

Personnel from Clackamas County Fire District #1 and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to both accident scenes, investigating and providing emergency medical assistance. The children in both incidents were reportedly conscious and breathing.

Deputies report that the 9-year-old child struck by an automobile on SE Boardman was conversing with rescue personnel at the scene, and was transported to Providence Milwaukie Hospital. This 9-year-old patient appears to be in good condition, considering the magnitude of the collision; the child was only expressing discomfort due to a lower-leg injury.

Investigators on-scene report that no citations were issued to the driver of the automobile. As reported by witnesses, the child on the bicycle darted into the roadway in front of the slow-moving automobile before being struck.

Meanwhile, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Patrol Sergeant reports that Clackamas Fire personnel responded to a report of a 4-year-old child who had fallen from an upper-story window at The Willamalane Apartments (Unit #24, 4707 SE Boardman, in Milwaukie).

The father was on-scene and providing comfort to his injured child. American Medical Response transported the patient to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.
