BORING -- The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT) cleared the site of this morning's fatal crash at approximately 1:30 p.m. today. The Sheriff's Office can now provide the following information pertaining to this tragic accident:

At 9:28 a.m., Several motor vehicles were proceeding northbound on SE Amisegger Road. This procession of northbound motorists was following a cargo van on SE Amisegger Road when a motorcyclist in this procession entered into the southbound lane of travel on Amisegger. The motorcyclist was described by witnesses as accelerating in an effort to pass several vehicles while proceeding northbound in the southbound lane of travel.

The cargo van leading this procession of vehicles reportedly slowed, with its left-turn signal activated, and initiated a left-hand turn into a residential driveway on Amisegger. The accelerating motorcycle reportedly struck the side of this cargo van as it was negotiating the left turn.

It is believed the motorcyclist was passing at least two or more vehicles at the time of the crash; the motorcyclist died at the scene shortly after impact. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and was passing in a designated legal zone for passing. This stretch of roadway is declared to have a 45 mph speed limit.

The deceased motorcyclist is identified as Eric Christian Delf, 38, with a residential address on SE 329th in Boring. Delf was in operation of 2000 Aprilia, motorcycle at the time of the crash.

Delf is reportedly survived by his wife and three children who reside at the Boring address.

A Clackamas County Deputy Sheriff, accompanied by a volunteer TIP member, has completed notification to the grieving Delf family.

The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet 3500 van is identified as Richard G. Mather, Jr., 59, of Portland. Mather was in operation of this vehicle while conducting business for the Maytag Corporation. No citation was issued.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in this fatal traffic crash, and no citations have been issued.
