Clackamas County Sheriff's Office recognizes Teen Triple Threat 'Safe Driving Contest' winners

Posted: April 14th, 2008, 10:03 a.m.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities and Oregon Impact are proud to announce the Teen Triple Threat "Safe Driving Contest" winners.

Join Sheriff Roberts and the Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, April 17th at 10 a.m., when students will be recognized and prizes awarded.

The ceremony will take place during the Board of County Commissioners weekly hearing held at the Public Services Building (2051 S. Kaen Rd., 4th floor, Oregon City).

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens aged 15 to 19 years." No other hazard or behavior comes close to claiming as many teen lives as driving.

Traditionally, drivers' education has been from parents, educators and safety professionals.

This year, Clackamas County junior and senior high-school students were "in the drivers' seat" as they created safe driving media based on three important risk factors:

Students selected one (or a combination) of these risks and created print, radio, and video PSAs (Public Safety Announcements) about safe driving.  The contest ran from October 1, 2007 to March 2008.

  1. Bradley Mills, Junior at Oregon City High School, won 1st place in the contest.
  2. Jefferson Sandquist and Daryl Eaves entered as a team and took 2nd place.
  3. Pete Delbridge won 3rd.

Our 2nd and 3rd place winners are all from Molalla High School.

Radio ads will be featured on The Wolf (99.5 FM) and Z100 (100.3 FM) between April 21st and May 18th.  Print samples will be highlighted in the Clackamas Review and Oregon City News the week of April 23rd.

Submissions can be viewed here on the Safe Communities website.

This campaign is brought to you by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities and Oregon Impact.  These organizations share the vision of reduced injury or death on our roadways.

The top three winners will receive:

The program is sponsored by: State Farm Insurance; Clackamas Traffic Safety Commission; Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Peace Officers Association; ProDrive Inc.; Providence Health Systems; Clackamas Federal Credit Union; and Clackamas Town Center.
