CCSO CASE # 09-36352
At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, a fishing guide and his clients found a deceased human body floating down the Willamette River.
The body was entangled in a large nest of sticks, and was found just below Hogg Island, on the Lake Oswego side of the river.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit -- accompanied by a Sheriff's Office Dive Team member -- responded to this reported discovery. Marine Unit personnel towed the buoyant nest of sticks and human remains to the east side of the river at the Oak Grove Boulevard boat ramp.
The Clackamas County Deputy Medical Examiner was summoned to the scene to investigate and take possession of the recovered human remains.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, a Clackamas County Deputy Medical Examiner reports the deceased has been identified (with the aid of dental records) as Zachary Rollins, age 24, of Portland, Oregon.
Zachary Rollins was last seen on April 21, 2009 at about 4:50 p.m. in the High Rocks area of the Clackamas River. On this occasion, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit responded to a report of a man having difficulty in the river. Witnesses reported seeing the victim floating into the area of the rapids, going under and not resurfacing near the walking bridge between Gladstone and Oregon City.
All family notifications have been completed by the Deputy Medical Examiner.
