At 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies representing the Damascus Police Department responded to an automobile/pedestrian accident in front of 20151 SE Hwy. 212, in the parking lot of the Safeway store in Damascus.

American Medical Response arrived on the scene and identified the injured pedestrian as Marianne Ross, age 52, of Gresham, an adult female in her early 50s. She was reportedly conscious and breathing.

Investigating deputies report that Ms. Ross was departing the Safeway Store, and was in the process of walking into the parking lot area of the store. At the same time, a white 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup operated by Keith R. Wiebold, age 49, of Damascus had exited a parking spot -- striking Ms. Ross with the front portion of the pickup.

LifeFlight was requested, and Ross was airlifted from the landing zone to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) specialists were summoned to the scene to attend to the emotional needs of the driver, who was reportedly very distraught.

Wiebold was cited for careless driving by investigating deputies. The investigation is ongoing.

As of Wednesday, morning (March 3, 2010), Marianne Ross remains hospitalized in critical condition with severe head injuries at Emanuel Hospital.
