HAPPY VALLEY -- On Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at 4:02 p.m., Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies responded to a reported robbery that occurred at the entrance to the Bank of America at 12028 SE Sunnyside Rd. in Happy Valley.
A Patrol Sergeant arrived on the scene just in time to see a citizen chasing a masked subject who was fleeing on foot through a parking lot near the bank. This pursuing citizen -- William Roger Onstott, age 50, of Happy Valley -- tackled the robbery suspect NFL-style on the pavement, and held that robbery suspect until deputies were able to come to Onstott's aid.
Onstott had arrived at the bank in his automobile moments prior to witnessing the robbery event unfold in front of him -- and he chased the suspect on foot across the parking lot prior to the game-saving tackle.
Deputies on-scene report that the robbery victim -- Michele L. Galarneaux, 53, of Clackamas -- had just arrived at the bank, and was walking to the bank's main entrance while carrying a bank bag in her hand when a masked male lunged at her, pushed her into a concrete pillar, and stepped onto her hand while wrenching the bank bag from her grasp. The suspect then fled on foot.
The force of the attack caused injuries to Galarneaux's nose, chest and hand, which required Galarneaux to be transported to Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital in Clackamas.
The robbery suspect is identified as Chas William Lombardo, age 20, of Newberg.
Lombardo was handcuffed at the scene and transported to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office North Station for an interview with a robbery detective. The suspect will likely be lodged at Clackamas County Jail later in the evening on a Robbery charge.
